We finally updated our website and put some new work on it as well. Hyeyoung just finished a series called "Nurtured by Nature". They are giclee prints on silk mounted on wooden box frames using encaustic wax. Here is what she had to say about the series...
"While visiting a Buddhist temple one day, I turned a corner and came upon rows and rows of miniature Bodhisattva statues. Later, I learned there were a thousand of them. They were all placed outdoors and fully exposed to the elements. I imagined these stone idols of the Bodhisattva (enlightened being) as they began life many years ago. They were probably all created from a single ideal to convey that perfect iconic expression of peace, serenity and enlightenment we are all familar with.
When I see them as they are today, I realize that something has happened. They have acquired beautiful imperfections on their faces and bodies from nature and time. I also see other emotions sitting on top of their expressions of peace, serenity, and enlightenment. I now view these stone idols as individuals expressing other emotions like sadness, pleasure, jealousy, joy, suffering, playfulness, regrets, anger, disappointments etc. They remind me of people I may know in my own life."
